I play games on my CD Rom, so I don't think it's that. The CD drive became unreliable at reading disks and was replaced. Any copy of XP installation disks downloaded is bootleg.Microsoft never made any version of Windows available for download.Go to your local Dollar Store, Big Lots, Walmart etc and see if they saying that it can't copy certain files on this install.
TechSpot is a registered trademark. I changed hardware, settings, etc. Under Advanced there is not much to choose from. The first file needed was shell32.dll.
I usually take the suspect drive, put it in another machine, and reformat it there. (This of course after making sure the machine can't boot from the suspect HDD.
