I decline to write why every time this comes up but the issues of drives bigger than 127GB and SATA drivers that blow up on "XP" are the top 2 out I believe the newer systems (pc and laptops) require a newer version of XP for a clean install.

If that is the Dell XP disc that came with the computer, and it already has SP2 on it, the hard drive may be failing.
