I suggest you try the search first to see how fast it is. I was able to find a fix from too much googling and found out that the culprit was with the file indexing. I would have never thought of this - This DOES stop the lag with explorer, and does not seem to have any adverse effect on anything that I normally use. By default, Windows Search will index certain common locations on your drive, such as the User folder, Outlook Messages, and Internet Explorer browsing history. The operating system indexes several by default including the complete user folder. In fact adding any switch, such as "/?" seems equally effective. !!!BUG!!! I did find a temporary work around - use [Windows] + [E] to load File Explorer, instead - it loads instantly!
Following "All that was required was" should be numbered steps. I suggest you also give that shortcut a shortcut key, I chose Ctrl-Alt-E. I'll do it ᅠᅠᅠ I have the same symptoms, and the hints from the article didn't help either. The window that opens displays all locations that are included by Windows 10's search indexer.
I'd almost given up searching for a solution, resigned to having to slog through moderately large folders in the Finder every time I wanted to open or save something.
