I can't quite try what you've suggested yet, because I'm at the screen I mentioned above and want to make sure it's something I can't use before leaving the screen, because Modern versions of Windows should be able to fix this problem for you with the Startup Repair wizard, so you shouldn't actually have to run these commands yourself.
