When I switched back the "compatibilty" parameter to AHCI in the BIOS, the system would not boot properly. Once XP was installed, when I tried to run the Matrix Storage Manager driver, I got the message "This computer does not meet minimum requirements for installing the software". In many cases, it can actually hinder SSD performance, and even reduce the lifetime of your SSD. EasyBCD is a superb freeware which allows you to reinstate the Vista Boot Manager which was clobbered when XP was installed.

Please stop confusing yourself ! SATA has data cable on right and power cable on left. So the PC will not boot up if the SATA controller is later switched to AHCI mode.
